Brother, Silent

Brother, Silent is a two-player letter writing role-playing game. It was written during the stay-at-home order in Denmark in April of 2020. I wanted to make a game that could provide a different activity for people suddenly finding themselves spending a lot more time together at home.

You can download Brother, Silent on itch.io.

Players take on the roles of two monks who have both taken a vow of silence at their monastery, during which they fall secretly in love. The players write secret love letters to each other and leave them in a secret place for the other to find. It’s a game that relies a lot on the anticipation of waiting for a letter, turning being at home into a ritual of sorts.

Brother, Silent is extremely rules-light (you could likely play it just from having read this page). I want it to be approachable to people who haven’t played role-playing games before, and I want to leave space for the particular relationship between the players instead of forcing a certain type of romance into the game. The game is about being gay in secret, most everything else is left up to the players.
